Fewer Drivers Ignoring School Buses

School has been in session for two weeks and Sarnia police say the majority of motorists are obeying the rules and stopping for school buses.

Constable John Sottosanti says to date, one motorist has been issued a ticket for failing to stop after an officer on patrol witnessed the vehicle pass a stopped school bus.

"We have received another complaint that is still under investigation," says Sottosanti.

"This is a decrease from last year at approximately the same time and we're happy to see that but, we hope that from this day forward we can can keep the numbers at zero."

At this time last year, Sarnia police had responded to about a dozen complaints of vehicles ignoring a stopped school bus, picking up or dropping off students.

Failure to stop for a school bus with its stop arm activated and lights flashing, can result in a $490 fine and six demerit points for a first offence.
