Sarnia fire responded to a house fire on Colborne Rd. north of Hwy. 402 Tuesday afternoon. Public Education Officer Mike Otis says smoke was coming from a home in the 900 block when 15 firefighters from three stations arrived at 1:45pm. He says crews saw flames and smoke coming from the basement when they entered a rear door. Otis says a smoke alarm alerted the occupants and they were able to get out safely. He says crews quickly extinguished the blaze and were able to prevent damage from spreading to other floors of the home. A cause and damage estimate have yet to be determined. Sarnia Fire reminds everyone that only working smoke alarms can help save lives and they are required by law on every storey of your home.
