New Charging Stations Installed

The County of Lambton and City of Sarnia have joined forces to improve accessibility for local residents who rely on power wheelchairs or scooters.

Twelve charge stations have been installed across Sarnia-Lambton for the mobility devices.

Lambton County Corporate Services General Manager David Cribbs says the need was identified following several incidents of residents becoming stuck after their battery had run low.

"The charging stations look a lot like a traditional outlet in the wall, except that they have signs above them that say 'Charge Station' with a symbol," says Cribbs.

The designated electrical outlets have been changed to a blue colour and identified with the signage at Bayside Centre, the Bright's Grove, Sarnia and Mallroad Libraries, Canatara, Centennial, Germain and Tecumseh Parks, Lambton Public Health, Lambton Shared Services Centre, Sarnia City Hall, and the Strangway Centre.

Charging and capital costs to the municipalities are expected to be insignificant.

The pilot project will be evaluated later in the year, with the possibility of the service being expanded.
