Opposition is growing to a pilot project off leash dog park in Sarnia's Germain Park.
Marian Glover says it's simply the wrong location, given how busy the park is with baseball, soccer, football, and lawn bowling, as well as a nearby children's playground and St. Matthews School.
"The off leash dog people have already said dogs have escaped from the Blackwell park," she says. "I've spoken to a pest control professional. They say faeces is highly contaminate. They will be tracking it out of the area into the park where all the people and children are. I don't believe Sarnia taxpayers should be responsible for the exercise and entertainment of other people's dogs."
Clean up and maintenance of the park would be the responsibility of the Parks and Recreation Department
The proposed location is in green space near the old Germain Arena in between the parking lot and the set of washrooms beside the lawn bowling club.
Ms. Glover already has 100 names in opposition on a petition she circulated in the neighborhood in just three hours.
She advises anyone in opposition to email city hall at parksandrecreation@sarnia.ca
City council will deal with the proposal once a report from city staff is in.
