A 54-year-old man is recovering in hospital after a violent assault Monday afternoon in Sarnia. City police Constable John Sottosanti say a male pedestrian was assaulted by an unknown suspect in the Lincoln Park Ave., Cecil St. area around 4pm. "The information that we have is that it was a verbal exchange with the male victim followed by a violent assault," says Sottosanti.
"It is unknown affirmatively whether or not the suspect and the victim knew each other." Constable Sottosanti says the suspect fled the scene in a white Mazda hatchback. The unconscious victim was assisted by family members, area residents and EMS before being taken to Bluewater Health with serious injuries. He has since been transferred to London Health Sciences Centre. The suspect is described as being in his 20's with a slender build and wearing dark clothing. Police have released a photo of a vehicle similar to what the suspect was seen driving. Anyone with information is asked to contact Sarnia police or Crime Stoppers.
