Downtown Brewery Looking To Expand

A vacant downtown Sarnia property could soon be home to a second craft brewery production facility in the city.

The Refined Fool Brewing Company is looking to expand operations and open an event centre at the former Sarnia This Week building.

One of the owners, Nathan Colquhoun, says the second site would focus on mass production for restaurant and LCBO deliveries.

"Things have been awesome and Sarnia was a great place to start this and has been really receptive to us and supportive," says Colquhoun. "We originally thought that maybe we would just do a production site and go to a more industrial area and not make it kind of a place that people still go to, but downtown has been so awesome to us and what's happening downtown is so great."

The former Sarnia This Week building at 153 Christina St. S is currently zoned general commercial.

Colquhoun and his partners are seeking a light industrial designation for the property.

Sarnia City Council considers the rezoning application when it meets Monday September 12. City staff is recommending council approve the necessary changes.
