The long hot summer continues.
A heat warning is in effect for much of southern Ontario including Sarnia-Lambton as students return to school.
Environment Canada meteorologist Geoff Coulson says high temperatures in the low 30's and humidex values in the low 40's are expected Tuesday, Wednesday and into Thursday.
"Got a big area of high pressure south of the lower Great Lakes that's acting like a big heat pump bringing up this moisture directly from the American deep south, the Gulf of Mexico area," says Coulson. "It's not really changing much over the next few days and that's why we're expecting these temperatures to make it into the low 30's, right through until likely Thursday before we see more seasonal temperatures coming in for Friday and Saturday."
While it will be very hot, new record highs are not expected in Sarnia.
The record for September 6 is 34 C (93 F) set in 1978.
Lambton Public Health has a heat warning in effect until Thursday.
While extreme heat can put everyone at risk from heat illnesses, health risks are greatest for older adults, infants and young children and people with chronic conditions.
Residents are reminded to limit time spent outdoors and drink plenty of water.
Lambton Public Health says there are 11 cooling centres available across Sarnia-Lambton for residents to escape the heat.
