Boat Flips In Lake Huron

A boater and his dog suffered a close call when their boat flipped upside down in Lake Huron near Riding Club Lane in Sarnia.

Sarnia Fire and Rescue Services says on Friday around 6:30pm, the marine unit responded to the overturned boat in Lake Huron one mile from shore.

Fire officials say a male boater and his dogs were seen escaping the sinking boat into a dingy, while in rough waters. Within minutes the dingy then capsized, leaving a boater and his dog in the water.

Rescue crews entered the water and successfully rescued the boater and his dog. Point Edward Fire and Rescue, along with the Canadian and US Coast Guard, also helped in the rescue.

The boater was taken to Bluewater Health by Lambton EMS, while the dog was taken to the local Humane Society. Both were reportedly in the water for quite a bit of time, but they are expected to recover.
