The Sarnia and District Labour Council is hoping this year's Labour Day parade will take place without controversy.
Last year Mayor Mike Bradley watched from the sidelines in protest of the council's decision not to invite Conservative politicians Bob Bailey and Pat Davidson.
Council President Jason McMichael says this year, all elected officials have been asked to participate by standing in front of city hall in a special viewing area for dignitaries.
"They'll be given the opportunity to see the entire parade, rather than the folks on the sideline, and sort of express their respect to the workers and folks from the labour community," says McMichael. "It will give the union members, the ones marching in the parade, the opportunity to show their respect to the dignitaries. It's been really well received by everyone so far."
The parade begins at 9:30am Monday and proceeds on Front St. from Wellington St. to Centennial Park.
The theme this year is "Our Youth Our Future."
Thousands are expected to march.
