Lambton OPP have charged a tractor trailer driver with distracted driving thanks to photo and video captured by a passenger in another vehicle.
Around 4:30pm Monday, police say they were called to the westbound Hwy. 402 for a report of an erratic driver.
Police allege the transport driver was filmed using a handheld device atop his steering wheel. Ironically, he called police to complain about being photographed.
Constable Chris Doupe urges extreme caution when dealing with a distracted driver.
"We suggest that people be very hesitant in pulling up beside a tractor trailer that's driving erratically," says Doupe. "It's a better idea to just stay back and gather information such as a licence plate number and company name on the truck."
As a result of the investigation, the 31-year-old male driver from North York has been charged with operating a motor vehicle while using a hand held device.
He's facing a $490 fine and three demerit points.
