SSEC Naming Rights On Council Agenda

Sarnia council will hold a rare August regular meeting Monday.

The meeting was called to discuss a time sensitive issue.

With the hockey season quickly approaching, it's hoped the Sarnia Sports and Entertainment Centre will debut under a new name this fall.

Pending city council approval, the SSEC will be renamed "Progressive Auto Sales Arena."

Council is being asked to approve a new Naming Rights Agreement reached between Progressive, the city and the Sarnia Sting.

The Sarnia Sting home opener against the London Knights is September 21.

The proposed purchase of a new community showmobile is also on the agenda.

The Seaway Kiwanis Club is considering purchasing a new stage on wheels, but has some questions it would like answered first.

Vice President Donna Kelso says the board wants to know if the city would consider purchasing the unit, with the club then making payments of $50,000 annually until the unit is fully paid off.

The meeting Monday begins at 4pm.
