New Stage On Wheels Being Considered

A new showmobile may be in the works for the City of Sarnia.

The Seaway Kiwanis Club is considering purchasing a new stage on wheels and says its board would like to know if the city would consider purchasing the unit, with the club then making payments of $50,000 annually until the unit is fully paid off.

To help offset the cost, the club says it may even be able to pay $50,000 right away.

Mayor Mike Bradley thinks its a great opportunity.

"At face value to me it looks like a very generous offer, that's very workable and would give the community in the next couple of years a new showmobile which would be accessible and high tech, at no cost to the taxpayers," he says.

Bradley says the former Rotary showmobile served the community well, but isn't safe any more and was retired from use earlier this year.

Seaway Kiwanis Vice President Donna Kelso says if they finance the purchase they want the new unit ready for use by the opening ceremonies of this years Celebration of Lights.

Kelso is requesting that a motion be made by council Monday, asking staff to prepare a report answering their questions and deliver the findings at the September 12 regular meeting.
