The Rio Olympic officially get underway with the Opening Ceremonies set for Friday evening from Maracana Stadium in Brazil
Several local athletes will be competing, including Corunna's Derek Drouin, who won bronze in mens high jump at the 2012 Olympics in London.

- Dave Brubaker (Bluewater Gymnastics Club) is a National Team Director with Gymnastics Canada, the women’s artistic gymnastics team was in Sarnia for training before leaving for Rio. Dave and his wife Liz are in Rio with the team.
- John Vargo is the Chiropractor and Massage Therapist for the women's gymnastics team
