Centennial Heritage Picnic Receives Boost

Planning for the Lochiel Kiwanis Community Centre's Centennial Heritage Picnic has received a significant boost.

The Golden K Kiwanis presented a cheque for $1,200 at its meeting Tuesday morning.

Lochiel Administration Assistant Debbie Martin says the donation for their birthday/anniversary celebration helps a lot.

"It really does because it's offered free of charge and we want to make sure all of the kids get to come and not be held back by not being able to buy a ticket," says Martin.

About 600 people are expected to attend an invite only, old fashioned picnic September 1, featuring local food, old fashioned games and the Seaway Kiwanis train.

The Lochiel Kiwanis Community Centre was originally known as Sarnia Public School from 1916 to 1985 when the city, in partnership with the Kiwanis, repurposed the building as a not-for-profit community centre.
