Traffic Down Only Slightly At Blue Water Bridge

Lane restrictions and the low Canadian dollar are only having a minimal impact on the amount of traffic crossing the Blue Water Bridge.

Michigan Department of Transportation spokesperson Jocelyn Hall says 211,700 vehicles crossed westbound span into the United States this June, compared to 214,600 vehicles in the same month last year.

"So just a little bit of a difference, which we would expect given the significant lane restrictions on the westbound span of the bridge," says Hall.

220,100 vehicles crossed the eastbound span into Canada this June, compared to 221,500 vehicles in the same month last year.

Hall says they are pleased with the numbers and hope the numbers continue to trend the same way thorough July.

The westbound span has been reduced to one lane since May for bridge painting operations.

The tedious task is hoped to be complete by November.
