The tedious task of painting the Blue Water Bridge continues.
Michigan Department of Transportation spokesperson Jocelyn Hall says it's quite the site with all of the canvas covering the bridge.
She says the cloth is protecting the work from the elements and keeping chipped off paint from falling into the St. Clair River or the land below the bridge.
"At this point right now the project is progressing right on schedule," says Hall. "There is no reason to think that the contractor will not have this work done by the end of the season. What they're most concerned about having done is finishing painting on the arch section.
Hall says once the arch is complete the contractor shouldn't have to bring in such large pieces of equipment for any future paint work.
She says this kind of paint project is the most detail oriented and includes a three layer process including old paint and corrosion removal, painting and then sealing the area.
The American side of the westbound span has been reduced to one lane since May for the work.
It's hoped the project will be complete by November.
