Bayside Mall Ownership Status In Dispute

The power struggle over Sarnia's Bayside Mall isn't cooling down.

Tuesday, Mayor Mike Bradley reported that Wilsondale Assets Management General Manager Italo Ferrari had indicated the property was no longer in receivership and Gord Laschinger was no longer involved in the site's redevelopment.

Laschinger, a former project consultant, says he purchased Ferrari's shares and court proceedings remain active.

"Just to clarify, there was something in the news report that suggested that the receivership has been withdrawn or cancelled and that's not the case," says Laschinger. "The receivership is still scheduled as it has been for the last 10 days for August 26."

Laschinger says he is still president and sole shareholder of Bayside Mall 2015, the owner of the downtown property.

Ferrari contends Lashinger was only holding shares for him in trust.

Laschinger maintains he has the capital assets needed to develop the site, but the legal wrangling is hindering efforts to attract tenants to the building.

Wilsondale's previously announced development plans included a seniors housing complex, condos, a Davy Jones Quality Meats grocery store, a market square and roof-top patio.
