There was a hydrocarbon leak at Plains Midstream Canada gas liquids fractionation plant on Plank Rd. Thursday night. Sarnia Fire Rescue Services Platoon Chief Bill Sheane says three stations responded to a CVECO Code 9 with mutual aid at around 8:30pm They suppressed the vapors with water as company officials isolated the lines. "Sarnia Fire Rescue did air monitoring around the entire site and we had no readings so there was no off-site impact," he says. "It was contained to a small area inside the plant." The leak from an underground line was downgraded to a code 8 at about 9:40pm. The cause remains under investigation. Sarnia Fire Rescue also responded to a report of an odor coming from a CN rail car in the CN Rail Yards at around 4:30pm Thursday afternoon.
