Sarnia-Lambton residents have a chance to help bring more doctors into the area.
The Physician Recruitment Taskforce is holding a fundraising cruise aboard the Duc d'Orleans on Saturday evening from 6pm until 9pm.
Coordinator Carly Nienhuis says they've had a tough time getting money recently.
The only Lambton municipalities that continue to fund the non-profit group are Sarnia and Pt. Edward and the province has changed the way it pays doctors through OHIP.
"It's a constant battle but we're really trying to rack our brains here," says Nienhuis. "My board is going to put together a fundraising committee with a few of our board members and myself to continue fundraising initiatives. That's really the only way we will sustain ourselves."
Nienhuis says they're hoping to raise about $4,000 but says the cost of recruiting just one physician is around $18,000.
She says they've been able to recruit over 20 doctors to the area so far, with two more expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
The cruise includes entertainment by JaBrito, appetizers, and a cash bar. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at the Taskforce office at 420 East St.
