Air Quality Statement In Effect

A special air quality statement was issued for Sarnia-Lambton Tuesday. There's concern in the hot, sunny conditions about increasing ground-level ozone concentrations and high levels of air pollution.

The statement advises that residents can experience symptoms such as increased coughing, throat irritation, headaches or shortness of breath. Children, seniors and those with existing medical conditions are especially at risk and should reduce or reschedule activities outdoors.

Environment Canada's heat warning remains in effect for Sarnia-Lambton.

Meteorologist Geoff Coulson says it's expected to continue into Thursday with cooler air taking hold Friday.

Nine cooling centres have been set up across Sarnia-Lambton and are listed online at lambtonhealth.on.ca.

Residents are also encouraged to check on the elderly and medically fragile to ensure they're staying cool and well hydrated.
