Community Remembers Ruth Ann Windover

The Sarnia sports community is remembering Ruth Ann Windover, who passed away peacefully last week in Toronto at the age of 74.

Ruth Ann was elected Chair of the Sarnia Minor Athletic Association in 1991, and was a founding member of the Minor Hockey Alliance of Ontario.

Past Chair of the Sarnia Hockey Association Wayne Scarrow says her community work involved more than just minor hockey.

"On top of hockey, she was involved with the Imperial Theatre, the Optimist Club," says Scarrow. "She and her husband worked with local baseball, and they were the organizers of inline hockey that we had in Pt Edward for a few years."

Ruth Ann Windover, and her husband Lloyd, were elected to the Sarnia-Lambton Sports Hall of Fame in 2006.

The Sarnia Hockey Association made her a lifetime member in 2014, something that has never been done. Scarrow says that is fitting, because Ruth Ann was truly one of a kind.

A visitation is planned September 2 from 2-4 and 7-9 at the DJ Robb Funeral Home.

Donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Sarnia-Lambton.
