Transitional Help For Homeless

The Inn of the Good Shepherd is celebrating the opening of its new storage building.

The facility will house the belongings for residents at the Good Shepherd's Lodge.

Inn Executive Director Myles Vanni says people sometimes have to abandon their things because they can't afford private storage.

He says this way they're able to hang on to their meaningful items.

"So often when somebody comes into the shelter, they not only lose their house but they have to give up their possessions because they can't afford storage, and then they just have to start from scratch again," says Vanni. "It's so tough to get yourself reestablished, and when you give up your possessions there's so much there that means a lot to you."

Vanni says the Home Depot Orange Door Project provided the funds for the building materials, and the Lambton College Building Trades students built the structure.

The storage building will be used by residents of both the Good Shepherd's Lodge and the Haven, the Inn's youth shelter.
