Expansion Project Nearing Completion

The principal of Sarnia Christian School says renovations have been progressing well.

They broke ground on the project last June, with construction officially getting underway in August.

Len Smits says they hope to have the work wrapped up by the end of the school year, in time to hold Grade 8 graduation at the new facility.

With renovations being done throughout the school year, Smits says students and staff have had to make the most of the available space.

"We found space was limiting , a couple of rooms functioned as multi purpose rooms, such as a staff room, a band room and a resource room," says Smits."Space was a bit of a problem, but the big reason for the build was to create new learning spaces, so we'll be in great shape for next year."

The school's library was a part of the renovations , so students were bused to city libraries throughout the school year.

Smits says renovations cost about $1.5-million, most of which was raised through sponsors and fundraising.

"There's places for small groups of students to collaborate, we have a big multi purpose space where students can do their presentations, proper band room, proper project room with all the art and science supplies in one room," says Smits.

He says the new library will have high ceilings and feature plenty of natural light.

The sections of the school being replaced was built in 1958, and Smits says upgrades were long overdue.
