SLEEAN Hosting Event For Elder Abuse Awareness

The Sarnia-Lambton Elder Abuse Awareness Network is hosting an event Wednesday in recognition of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. "Generations United Through Art" will be on from 10am until 4pm at the Judith & Norman Alix Art Gallery. SLEAAN Committee Member Tania Bergen says the event is free to the public, and is geared to all ages. "That's why we called it 'Generations United Through Art' because we're invited all generations to come and participate."

Activities are free of charge and will also include a session entitled "It's Not Right" which uses real life scenarios to help the friends, family members and neighbours of older adults recognize the warning signs of elder abuse and neglect.

Bergen says elder abuse can be physical, emotional, financial or neglect, and its important people know the warning signs, and what to do if they notice it.
