Transport truck safety will be the focus of the OPP's Operation Corridor.
Police and the Ministry of Transportation will focus the annual 24-hour traffic safety initiative on large commercial vehicles.
Constable Chris Doupe says there have been 27,000 collisions involving transport trucks over the last five years.
"Between 2011 and 2015, 321 people have lost their lives in relation to transport truck collisions, 281 of those people were passengers and drivers of other vehicles and the other 40 were the transport truck drivers," says Doupe. "So, for every transport truck driver that has died, seven others have lost their lives according to that five year statistic."
Doupe says the focus will be on the "big four," impaired driving, distracted driving, aggressive driving and seat belt use.
He says they will also be ensuring all transport truck safety regulations are being followed.
The safety blitz kicks off Thursday.
