The long time chief of Sarnia's Aamjiwnaang First Nation is not seeking a seventh term as head of council.
Chris Plain says, instead, he'll run for a spot on council next month after serving 12 years as chief.
Plain says he's proud of the community's accomplishments.
"Many agreements on a lot of new housing, a new subdivision, skateboard parks, and ball diamonds have had some upgrades," says Plain.
"We provided some access to our river banks, and we've added some environmental departments, child welfare departments, and increased health services."
Plain feels the time is right to step back and take on a reduced role in his community.
Current councillor Lareina Rising has declared her intention to run for chief as has Wilson Plain Sr. Joanne Rogers and Danalynn Williams.
Election day at Aamjiwnaang is July 15th.
Elections for chief and council were held at two other area First Nations over the weekend.
Tom Bressette was re-elected Chief at Kettle and Stony Point and Dan Miskokomon will serve another term as chief at Walpole Island.
