Gutsy Walk Supports Crohn's And Colitis Foundation

The Crohn's and Colits Foundation's 21st annual Gutsy Walk is being held Sunday afternoon in Canatara Park.

The walk is aimed at raising funds and awareness for those impacted by Inflammatory Bowel Disease

There are over 230,000 Canadians living with the condition, and most are diagnosed at a very young age.

Volunteer Katie Maybery has ulcerative colitis and says it's a struggle to deal with.

"They're auto-immune diseases meaning that the body recognizes the disease as foreign and it tries to fight itself because it doesn't recognize what's going on," says Maybery.

"You end up with inflammation inside and usually it's very painful."

Common symptoms include cramping, bleeding, and frequent washroom use.

The walk gets underway at 1pm at Canatara Park, with registration set for 12pm.

Over $14,000 has already been raised locally. Those wishing to make a donation can do so at www.gutsywalk.ca.
