Sarnia's Mayor has gone directly to the top in an attempt to jump start construction of a detox withdrawal management centre in the city.
Mike Bradley has written a letter to Minister of Health Eric Hoskins, asking for political intervention to get the ball rolling.
"This is an issue the community has been seeking for over a decade," says Bradley.
"In the last four or five years there's be some encouraging signs with the LHIN's and Bluewater Health moving forward, but for the last two years it appears the ministry itself has been sitting there and not making a decision on this much needed project in this area."
Statistics have shown that the number of fentanyl deaths in Sarnia is four times higher than the provincial average.
