Age Friendly Focus Groups Underway

The City of Sarnia is holding a series of community consultations as it looks to become more age-friendly.

The goal is to develop, implement, and evaluate local strategies to support Sarnia's aging demographic and further enable people of all ages to fully participate in the community.

Accessibility Co-Ordinator Dale Mosley says 22 focus groups are being held over the next few months at various locations throughout the city.

They're looking to incorporate the World Health Organization's eight essential elements to an age-friendly community.

"Those eight are housing, transportation, outdoor spaces and buildings, community support and health services, communication and information, civic participation and employment, respect and social inclusion and social participation ," says Mosley.

A cumulative report and action plan will be presented to Sarnia council next January.

For more information, or to join a focus group, call Dale Mosley at 519-332-0330 ext. 3307 or email access@sarnia.ca.
