The Ontario Liberal government's energy conversion plan isn't sitting well with Sarnia-Lambton Conservative MPP Bob Bailey.
Cabinet documents, leaked last week, revealed the Wynne government's plan to move homes and businesses off of natural gas to electricity for heating.
Bailey says that would have a devastating impact on consumers. He claims it would cost homeowners $4,500 to convert to an electric furnace, and an additional $3,000 annually to heat with electricity.
"We're all concerned because it could have a big impact here in Sarnia-Lambton," says Bailey. "First of all, for industry that uses natural gas but even over and above that, for the local consumers.
"Something like 76% of people in Ontario, and it's probably more locally, have access to natural gas to heat their homes and the numbers don't lie."
The Ontario Legislature only sits for two more weeks, and a decision on the matter could be made in early June.
Bailey has started a petition against the conversion plan. You can find it at www.bobbaileympp.com or at his office at 805 Christina St.
