Sarnia Leads The Way In Organ Donation

Sarnia is leading the way provincially with over half of the population being organ donors.

46% of Sarnians are registered donors, well above the provincial average of 29%.

President and CEO of the Trillium Gift of Life Network Ronnie Gavsie says organizations like the Sarnia Organ Donor's Awareness Group have helped the city set the bar.

"Community groups who are advocating for donor registration do a tremendous amount to educate the public about the promise of the gift of life," says Gavsie. "They're a huge ingredient to Sarnia being one of the leaders in the province in terms of registration rates."

Gavsie says the largest percentage of registrants are between 20 and 29 years old.

She says one organ donor can save up to eight lives. If you’re interested in becoming a donor, visit www.beadonor.ca.
