Smoke Alarms Alert Homeowner in Devine St. Fire

Smoke alarms were activated Monday afternoon alerting the owner of a home in the 200 block of Devine St. to a fire in the dwelling.

Sarnia Fire and Rescue Services Platoon Chief Bill Sheane says three stations and 15 firefighters responded at 2:24pm.

Crews arrived to find smoke billowing from the attic and all roof vents of the two-storey detached dwelling.

Sheane says quick action by firefighters contained the fire to the second floor and kept it from spreading to the attic.

He says the owner of the house was home and her smoke alarms were activated.

Damage to the structure and contents is estimated at $50,000.

The cause of the fire is determined to have been electrical in nature.
