A male driver, 56, was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries following an early morning crash Monday that killed three horses in southeast Sarnia. City police Constable John Sottosanti says just before 4:30am a tractor trailer gravel truck travelling west on Churchill Line near Telfer Rd. hit four horses that had strayed onto the road from a nearby farm.
"Unfortunately one of the horses died on impact and the other three ran away," says Sottosanti.
"Two were later located and due to the extent of injuries they received, were required to be euthanized by a veterinarian, the other horse had returned to the farm uninjured."
Constable Sottosanti says the truck left the road and careened through fences, narrowly missing a gas line before hitting a hydro pole.
The road was closed for over eight hours while Bluewater Power restored hydro to affected customers and city works crews had make repairs to the road shoulder.
