Sarnia and Pt. Edward could soon be offering charging stations for scooters and other mobility devices.
It has been recommended that Sarnia Council approve a pilot project Monday for eight locations, including Canatara Park, Sarnia Public Library, and Lambton Public Health.
Mayor Mike Bradley says this is one way other municipalities should go above and beyond minimum law regulations.
"I think when governments are looking at the minimum standards under this legislation, they need to take a look at 'okay, this is good we're doing the minimum, but what else should we do that would fit our community?' Whether it's making a trail accessible, whether it's plug-ins for scooters and devices that people need for mobility," he says. "I think we need to look beyond just doing what the law says."
The cost to fully charge a mobility device would take eight hours at 17 to 25 cents.
Setting up the blue plug stations, including signs and decals, would cost about $500.
