If you thought April was cooler than usual, you're right.
In fact, Environment Canada says last month's average temperature in Sarnia was just 5.4 C, or 1.5 C cooler than normal.
Meteorologist Geoff Coulson says it was the coldest April since 1997. He says we also received more snow than the usual 4 cm.
"Given those cooler temperatures, we saw higher numbers with respect to snowfall," says Coulson. "Overall though, precipitation wise we actually came in a little bit drier than normal. So if we took whatever snow fell combined with the rain that fell during the month, we came up with a total precipitation amount of about 54 mm. That still falls under the long-term average for April of 71.5 mm."
Coulson says a number of places in southern and northeastern Ontario broke single-day minimum temperatures on April 5 and April 10. He says Sarnia came close but didn't set any records.
Coulson says there's rain in the forecast Wednesday, but it's expected to be nice and mild heading into the weekend.
The weather pattern for the month of May remains uncertain, but it's hoped it will be warmer than normal.
