Bridge Painting Project Sees Lane Reductions

It will likely take extra time crossing the Blue Water Bridge into Port Huron for the foreseeable future.

Michigan Department of Transportation spokesperson Jocelyn Hall says a major painting project is underway on the American side of the span.

"We've been working on painting for a few months now, and it's going to continue on into the early fall," says Hall.

"Because of the height of some areas of the bridge we need to be able to move in equipment to hit some of those areas. So that's what requires the additional lane restrictions."

As a result, there'll be intermittent single and double-lane closures beginning at mid-span from 7am until 4pm daily.

And then, beginning Monday, May 9, the westbound lanes will be reduced to one lane until the project is complete sometime in November.
