Two Sarnia residents are in police custody following an altercation with officers around 5pm Wednesday.
Police were called to the 1000-block of Oak Ave. for a report of a domestic disturbance between a 26-year-old man and 20-year-old woman.
Constable John Sottosanti says when officers arrived, the man became agitated and standoffish.
He says the man was under a recognizance not to communicate with the female.
"At this point, the officer attempted to arrest the male and a struggle ensued. The officer was able to call for assistance and another officer did show up," says Sottosanti. "At this time, the struggle continued at which point one of the officers was required to taser the male. He was finally brought under control and handcuffed."
Sottosanti says the woman attempted to intervene by allegedly punching an officer in the head. She then allegedly fled the scene but was quickly found and arrested.
The man is facing charges of breach of recognizance of bail, two counts of breaching probation, and one count each of resisting arrest and mischief.
Sottosanti says the mischief charge stemmed from damage caused to a cell block at police headquarters.
The female is charged with assaulting a peace officer.
Both were being held for a bail hearing Thursday.
