A Sarnia woman is facing a long list of charges in connection with an assault Tuesday afternoon.
Constable John Sottosanti says Sarnia police were called to an address in the 200 block of Elgin St. for an assault in progress around 3:45pm.
He says a woman allegedly attempted to steal a cell phone from another woman, striking her in the process.
Sottosanti says when officers arrived the suspect had already left the scene but was located a short distance away.
"The officer approached the suspect who was known to police, and advised her she was under arrest for outstanding warrants," says Sottosanti. "During this interaction, the female began to resist and struggle with the officer but ultimately was handcuffed successfully. The officer did receive some minor scratches and injuries during the altercation."
Sottosanti says the 20-year-old woman is in police custody.
She's charged with theft under $5,000, mischief under $5,000, resisting a peace officer, uttering threats, breach of probation as well as charges stemming from outstanding warrants for failing to appear in court.
A bail hearing was scheduled for Wednesday.
