Mass Casualty Simulation at SSEC

Lambton College students were put to the test Tuesday during a mass casualty simulation that's held yearly at the Sarnia Sports and Entertainment Centre. Paramedic, fire, nursing and police foundations students worked together to put into practice the skills they've developed over the past two semesters. The scenario again involved a Zamboni driver hitting a natural gas line. Paramedics faculty member Ray Pettigrew says the students look forward to the simulation all year. "This is a really big event for the students, where all the things they've learned some together and seeing how they can apply their skills, and how quickly and efficiently they can do it," says Pettigrew.

"Lambton College is big in simulation and hands on experience and that's what this is about, and actual simulated event where students can practice their skills." 30 drama students from St. Clair Secondary School were made up as victims with a range of injuries adding a sense of realism to the simulation. Pettigrew says victims were transported to a make-shift emergency department at the campus nursing lab.
