Mayor Says Federal Budget 'Municipal Friendly'

Sarnia Mayor Mike Bradley says there is elation among municipal leaders over infrastructure provisions in the federal budget.

He's pleased Ottawa will pick up 50% of the funding for projects instead of the usual one third.

"It changes the funding formula in a positive way for local property tax payers. This government has sent a very clear message that they're municipal friendly and they want to work with us to build the country," he says.

Under the new formula municipalities would be responsible for 25% with the province picking up the remainder.

Mayor Bradley adds he was disappointed there wasn't infrastructure funding for arena repair. He hopes funding will flow in the future to help with major upgrades needed at Sarnia Arena.

The mayor also notes there is funding in the budget for harbour improvements but they haven't heard yet if Sarnia is eligible.
