Historical Society Helps Residents Research Properties

If you've ever wondered who's owned your home in the past, you can now discover it easily through city and county archives.

The Sarnia Historical Society has put together a step-by-step tutorial for city residents, now available on its website.

President Ron RealeSmith says it's not hard to do.

"The document really lays it out for you, and what's really nice about it is, out of the Lambton County archives you're going to be working with someone that works there and is very knowledgeable of how this is done," says RealeSmith.

He says once a name has been found, residents can then research it for free through Ancestry.ca.

One of the society's initial property searches had discovered a founding member of Sarnia had originally owned the land.

RealeSmith encourages property owners to share any interesting information found with the historical society for future publication.
