Vipers Edge Legionnaires 5-4, Force Game Seven

The Sarnia Legionnaires and LaSalle Vipers are heading to game seven after the Vipers edged Sarnia 5-4 in overtime to tie the best-of-seven series 3-3 at Sarnia Arena Saturday night.

Daniel Beaudoin opened the scoring for LaSalle just 32 seconds into the game. Legionnaires captain Hunter Tyczynski scored on the powerplay, and shorthanded to put Sarnia ahead 2-1 after the first period.

Sarnia defenceman Brad Marsh intercepted a pass off the stick of Vipers goalie Paolo Battisti and buried his first goal of the playoffs 3:00 into the second period. Tyler Russell and Owen Lalonde responded with goals for LaSalle to tie the game 3-3.

Alec DeKoning answered for Sarnia with just 21 seconds remaining in the frame to put the Legionnaires ahead 4-3 after two periods. Viper forward Liam MacDougall tied the game at 3:11 of the third period.

The Legionnaires went on a four minute powerplay in overtime, as LaSalle forward Connor Rosaasen highsticked Alec DeKoning and drew blood.

Sarnia appeared to win the game in the extra period but a goal was called back because the ref deemed the puck was kicked into the net. Shortly afterward, Sarnia's Ryan Trottier was handed a goalie interference penalty, and Daniel Beaudoin scored his second goal of the game to seal the win for LaSalle.

Each team scored once on eight powerplay chances. Legionnaire goalie Shayne Battler made 37 saves on 42 Viper shots while Paolo Battisti made 33 saves on 37 shots against.

Game seven is scheduled for 5pm on Sunday night at the Vollmer Recreation Complex in LaSalle. You can hear the game live on 103.9FM-1070AM CHOK.
