We're enjoying record mild temperatures in Sarnia again. The mercury hit 20 C (68 F) at 3pm Wednesday at Chris Hadfield Airport. Unofficially, that is a new record high in Sarnia for March 9, surpassing the previous mark of 19.3 C set in the year 2000. The Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority has issued a Watershed Conditions Statement. Snowmelt due to the mild weather and the potential for 30 mm (1 in ) of rain through Thursday could cause high stream flows through the weekend. Major flooding is not anticipated and with rivers now free of solid ice, the risk of ice-jamming is minimal. The authority says conditions are hazardous near all waterways, however, and residents are reminded to stay away.
