Warden Says Province To Cover Turbine Policing Costs

Lambton County's warden is assuring municipalities in which wind farms are located that they will not be responsible for any increased OPP related costs.

A new OPP billing model sees each individual turbine classified as a commercial property and an eastern Ontario township's OPP bill was $26,000 higher because of it.

Warden Bev MacDougall says the issue was raised at the recent Rural Ontario Municipalities Association meeting.

"We heard loud and clear from the Ontario government from ministers attending the conference that the province is going to look after that portion of OPP policing," she says. "It is not going to get passed down to the lower tiers."

There were concerns that Lambton municipalities including Plympton-Wyoming and Lambton Shores would have to pay significantly more for OPP policing.
