Mayor Wants Council Involvement In Park Plans

Sarnia city staff are proposing changes to Centennial Park's stage area that would incorporate components of the existing Dow People Place.

Demolition of the 50-year-old facility was originally planned for this past August, and was later postponed to the fall and again in the new year.

Mayor Mike Bradley says a staff report for council's information states the recently carried out environmental assessment process has changed plans to include only partial demolition.

"Well the new twist is that some of the Dow People Place, we're told by staff, is going to remain. We need to have clarification on that, and that, to me, needs council's involvement," he says. "Council will be held responsible for what the park is when it reopens."

Mayor Bradley would like to ensure what is put in place for the stage area is the best facility for the next 50 years.

It's expected Centennial Park will fully reopen to the public this Labour Day.
