Firebirds Soar Past Sting

The Sarnia Sting (32-17-5-2) lost a heartbreaking 4-3 decision at the hands of the Flint Firebirds (17-32-4-2) before a crowd of 3,111 at the Sarnia Sports and Entertainment Centre Friday night.

The Sting lead 3-1 after two periods before Flint's Ryan Moore and Will Bitten scored goals just 26 seconds apart to tie the game midway through the third. Detroit Red Wings prospect Vili Saarijärvi sealed the comeback for the Firebirds with a powerplay goal four minutes later.

Travis Konecny lead the way for the Sting with a goal and an assist while Jeff King had two helpers. Troy Lajeunesse and Matt Mistele also scored for the Sting.

Sting goalie Charlie Graham stopped 22 of 26 shots while Brent Moran turned aside 38 of 41 Sting opportunities.

The Sting is still 2nd place in the OHL's Western Conference with 71 points, and three points up on Windsor for the West Division lead.
