The Town of Petrolia has handed out its Volunteer Awards at its annual appreciation dinner.
The Sports and Recreation volunteer is Petrolia Minor Hockey Association President and coach Nick Salaris. He's also involved with Petrolia Minor Soccer, works with the Silver Stick Committee and has been a key player in the town's bid for Kraft Hockeyville.
Rosanne Orcutt received the Community Service award. The founding member of the Task Force to maintain CEE in the community is also the chair of the Doctors Recruitment Committee and organized action against heavy truck traffic through town.
Retired teacher and town crier Les Whiting was awarded the Community Partnership award, has sat on numerous committees and used his woodworking skills on the Rotary Band Shell and the Petrolia Legion Canon.
The Arts and Culture award was presented to Sylvia Fairbank, who does just about everything at Victoria Playhouse. She's a member of the Community Services Committee and was instrumental in bringing a Syrian family to Petrolia.
And Pat Traichevich received a special recognition award for her years of service to the town. Her most recent achievement -- securing a large marching band for the Petrolia Santa Claus Parade
