The Sarnia Legionnaires (22-21-2-3) lost a hard fought 3-2 game at the hands of the visiting LaSalle Vipers (27-14-3-2) in GOJHL hockey action Thursday.
Brendan Shagena kicked off the scoring for the Legionnaires 7:46 into the opening frame on a cross-ice slap pass from Eric Marsh. The game remained 1-0 until 2:29 into the second when Tyler Russell tied it up at 1-1. Brett Primeau put the Vipers ahead 2-1 just six minutes later.
The Legionnaires stormed right back midway through the final period on Captain Hunter Tyczynski's 10th goal of the season. The game was only tied for three minutes before Eric Kirby scored the game winning goal shorthanded for the Vipers.
The Legionnaires went 0-7 on the powerplay while LaSalle was held scoreless on five chances.
Sarnia goalie Shayne Battler made 26 saves while Eli Billing stopped 30 of 32 Legionnaires shots.
The Legionnaires debuted their new alternate red jerseys for the game, sponsored by the Seaway Kiwanis club.
The loss means the Legionnaires will finish the season 6th place in the Western Conference.
They return to action Thursday, February 25 at home to Chatham and wrap up the regular season in Lambton Shores on February 27.
