Sarnia

From Extreme Cold To Near Record Warmth

In sharp contrast to extreme cold warnings last weekend, we can expect near record warm temperatures heading into this weekend in Sarnia-Lambton.

Environment Canada says the temperature is expected to reach double digits Friday and Saturday.

Meterologist Geoff Coulson says with temperatures well above seasonal values, we'll make a good run at setting record highs both days.

The record temperature for Friday is 12.6 C set in 1994. Saturday a high of 12 C (54 F) is forecast for Sarnia with the standing record for February 20, being 13.2 C, also set in 1994.

Coulson says it will also be very windy, and "a good day to have two hands on the wheel when driving."

"These winds are tied into a system that's currently over northern Wisconsin. That system is not really going to be much of a weather-maker for Sarnia itself, certainly it's going to give some weather to northwestern Ontario and north of Superior," he says. "But the one side effect we are seeing in the southwest, are these strong and gusty winds."

Southwest winds gusting to 70 km/h are expected Friday, still below the wind warning criteria of 90 km/h.
