Saginaw Upends Sting In Spirited Response To Blow Out

After being blown out 11-4 in Sarnia Monday, the Spirit turned the tables on the Sting in Saginaw Wednesday night.

The Spirit scored four times in the last six minutes of the first period en route to a 5-2 win at the Dow Event Centre.

Former Spirit Devon Paliani had given the Sting an early 1-0 lead with his first goal in a Sarnia uniform before the home team went on its four goal run to lead 4-1 after 20 minutes.

Despite outshooting Saginaw 34-23 in the game, the Sting could not recover.

Sam Studnicka scored his 21st of the season on the power play in the second period with assists to Konecny and Chychrun but that's as close as Sarnia would get.

An empty net goal with Charlie Graham pulled for an extra attacker would make the final 5-2.

Studnicka also assisted on Paliani's goal.

The Sting saw their four game winning streak come to an end while Saginaw snapped a lengthy losing skid in Moe Mantha's first game as head coach.

Sarnia (32-16-5-2) still leads Windsor by three points atop the OHL West Division but the Spitfires now hold a game in hand.

Windsor is home to Sault Ste. Marie Thursday while the Sting is back in action at home to Flint Friday.
